Abstract
This talk will use examples to introduce biplots as a tool for the
visualization of multivariate data. The biplot (See, for example, Gabriel,
Rave und Weber. "`Graphische Darstellung von Matrizen durch das Biplot"', EDV
in Medizin und Biologie, 7 (1976)) shows both the units of observations
(individuals, replications, etc.) and the variables (measures taken on the
units) in a manner that is quite intuitive. It therefore enables the
investigator to actually SEE patterns, clusters, trends and outliers and it
may suggest models that fit the data. Biplots can be implemented by
software such as principal component analysis routines.
