Course on Numerical and Statistical Methods
for Chemical Engineers, autumn semester. Statistical Methods Part, given
in the last 5 weeks of the autumn Semester
Wednesday, 8.15-10 a.m., HG G 26.1, starting Nov 24, 2010
Contents
The following statistical methods will be introduced:
- Short repetition of multiple linear regression
(Nov 24)
- Nonlinear Regression
(Dec 1/8)
- Analysis of Variance, Response Surfaces, Experimental Design
(Dec 8/15)
- Multivariate Statistics: Process Control based on Spectra
(Dec 15/22)
Due to the limited time only brief introductions to these topics can be
presented. The exercises based on the use of Matlab are an essential
complement. They are generally given by Dr. Marco Lattuada on Tuesday,
1.45 to 3.30 p.m.
Vorlesung "Numerische und statistische Methoden"

The basic notions which should be known from a previous course can be found
in
Chapters 1-3, 4.1-3, 8.1-3, 8.5, 9.1-2, 9.4, 11.1-3
of
J.A. Rice (1995) Mathematical Statistics and Data Analysis. Duxbury
Press, Belmont, California
This book includes the initial parts of 2 chapters covered in this course:
Analysis of variance: 12.1, 12.2.1, 12.3.1-2, 12.4, and
Regression: 14 (mainly simple linear regression)
Suitable textbooks in English are

Die Grundbegriffe, die in dieser Vorlesung bekannt sein sollten, findet man
in meinem Einführungsbuch, Kap. 3-9
"Statistische Datenanalyse. Eine Einführung für
Naturwissenschaftler" von Werner A. Stahel,
