Joint one-day meeting 17th May 2005, 10.00am to 4.30pm

GENES, POPULATIONS AND DISEASE: GENOMIC, PROTEOMIC AND METABONOMIC
APPROACHES IN EPIDEMIOLOGY

Yorkshire Bank Lecture Theatre, Leeds University Business School, Leeds,
LS2 9JT

Aim:
This meeting will draw together people with backgrounds in laboratory
science, epidemiology, biostatistics, public health and clinical
medicine among others. The aim of the meeting is to critically address
how the new technologies of genomics, proteomics and metabonomics might
be best incorporated into population studies. Presentations at the
meeting will be made by individuals with either laboratory or
epidemiology expertise but with an awareness of the multidisciplinary
nature of the audience.

Topics:
Genomics and Populations; Proteomics and Populations; Metabonomics and
Populations; Epidemiological Study Design and the "omics" Technologies;
Life-course aspects of Genetic Epidemiology; UK Biobank: a case study;
Integrating Biology into Human Genome Epidemiology.

Speakers:
John Findlay (Leeds Institute of Genetics, Health and Therapeutics,
Leeds, UK), Alison Dunning (Strangeways Research Laboratory, Cambridge),
Elaine Holmes (Biological Chemistry, Imperial College, London), George
Davey-Smith (Department of Social Medicine, University of Bristol),
Paolo Vineis (Medicine, Imperial College, London, UK), Lyle Palmer
(Genetic Epidemiology, University of Western Australia), Paul Burton
(Department of Health Sciences, University of Leicester).

Registration:
The cost for registration prior to 30th March is £65 for SSM and
MEG/UKEMS members; £95 for non-members and £25 for full-time students.
