Job description:

Next generation sequencing technologies are revolutionizing genetics by
allowing us to sequence the genomes of many different individual
organisms in a population and to observe their complex coding and
non-coding transcriptomes and regulatory events under many conditions.
Powerful genetic tools such as QTL mapping, large scale polymorphism
libraries, RNAi and high content phenotyping allow the dissection of
causal relationships.

These tasks create exciting opportunities for computational scientists
to develop novel methods in statistics, signal processing and
mathematical modeling. Our team of computational scientists, in the
Genome Biology unit of the EMBL in Heidelberg, is tightly integrated in
loops of experimentation, data analysis, model building, interpretation
and refined experimentation.

Qualifications and experience:

The ideal candidate has a PhD in a quantitative or computational
discipline; interest in multidisciplinary work covering statistics,
mathematical modeling, genetics and molecular biology; competence in
scientific computing and computer programming; interest in biology and
its experimental technologies. A good publication record (which can
include academic papers and scientific software) is expected.

EMBL is an international organisation, the working language is English.

Best wishes
      Wolfgang
