[BioC] GEOquery: can I use getGEO to retrieve the metadata annotation only

Hi All
I am using getGEO to retrieve data from GEO. Can I just obtain the 
metadata only, ie not download the expression data.

I wish to obtain a subset of one of the large studies.  Therefore, I 
want to search the metadata to determine which subset of GSM files I 
need, and then just download that subset of cel files.
