Not exactly what you had in mind, but I've had success connecting a
Windows box to a Linux box with Xforwarding using TightVNC (and
putty).  It's almost as good as being at the Linux box.  The only
imperfections are that Alt-Tab is still controlled by Windows and the
number pad doesn't work in Emacs.   

In every other respect, Emacs and everything else works perfectly.
