Packages for RedHat 4.2, Debian 1.3

It may work but it may not.  Gregory is referring to installing the
r-base_0.61.1-2_i386.rpm file from the bin/i386-linux/RedHat-4.2/
directory, not the one from the RedHat-5.0 directory.  The one he is
trying to install was linked against libreadline.so.2.0 not
libreadline.so.2.1.

According to some discussions that we saw a while back, Debian's
libreadline.so.2.1 is supposedly upwardly compatible with
libreadline.so.2.0.  The libreadline.so.3.0 in RedHat 5.0 is the same
as Debian's libreadline.so.2.1 but the two maintainers can't agree on
a number.  (I think that's the way it works.  It got a bit confusing
for a while there.)

Anyway, if you do get it to install I would definitely try it out with
 R -noreadline
initially.
