62.1 make problems

Works OK here with f77 == g77. Which Fortran are you on?

You could try something like 

find /usr -name \*77\* -print
find /opt -name \*77\* -print

but I'm somewhat confused as to why the linker seems to be picking up
the shared library (mine links static) when it isn't there.

That, or wrong version of perl.
