Solaris make for 0.63 failing

You absolutely need GNU make, and on Solaris 2.6 you also need not to
use make-3.77 (the current version) as that has a bug which affects
this.  `They' are using features found in few makes.

Grab a copy of GNU make-3.76.1, make that and then this will work (or
at least, it does for me).

I did suggest that this be in the INSTALL file, but that is still
in the `TWO-LEVEL MAKE' days (or at least, it is on R-release, 0.63.1).
