1. It seems as if the redhat 5.2 sparc only has egcs. Because
   a) /usr/bin/egcs and /usr/bin/gcc are identical.
   b) gcc -v:
Reading specs from /usr/lib/gcc-lib/sparc-redhat-linux/egcs-2.90.29/specs
gcc version egcs-2.90.29 980515 (egcs-1.0.3 release)

   This is different from the i386 version, where:
[gb@localhost gb]$ gcc -v
Reading specs from /usr/lib/gcc-lib/i386-redhat-linux/2.7.2.3/specs
gcc version 2.7.2.3
[gb@localhost gb]$ diff /usr/bin/egcs /usr/bin/gcc
Binary files /usr/bin/egcs and /usr/bin/gcc differ

2. It completes "make check".
