I think eigen.c dates from days before we tried to be pure C for
portability purposes.  Provided we can live with the namespace pollution
which comes with Fortran (all function names being global), I'd actually
prefer to live with the original code. We've reverted the Linpack and
optimizer code already.

(Yeah, Yeah so why did I do the nmath thing?  I thought it might be more
generally useful than just for R ...)
