Installation problem on Redhat 6.0 (PR#247)

No, but those are not the compilers that came with my version of RH6.0.
I have no problems with

blackcap% gcc --version
egcs-2.91.66
blackcap% g77 --version
GNU Fortran 0.5.24-19981002

the latter being from the egcs-g77 rpm, if I recall correctly. We ahve
seem similar problems with people using the compilers for RH5.1 on RH6.0.
