Greek letters in outer margins. (PR#258)

When doing:

par(mfrow=c(2,2),mgp=c(2,1,0),mai=c(1,1,0.3,0.3)/1.5,oma=c(2,2,0,0))

for (i in 1:4) plot(rnorm(200),rnorm(200),ylab=" ",xlab=" ")

mtext(paste(expression(beta-alpha)),outer=T,side=1,line=0.5)
mtext(paste(expression(beta-gamma)),outer=T,side=2,line=0.5)
mtext("beta-alpha",outer=T,side=1,line=0.5)
mtext("beta-gamma",outer=T,side=2,line=0.5)

the greek letters appear in the margins of the last plot
whereas the plain text appear correctly in the outer margins.
