Inter-application communication protocols for R

Dear R development people,
We have developed a bi-directional link between the GIS package ArcView and
XGobi. The link operates using RPC calls transparent to the user. We are
interested in expanding the link to a stats package such as R, and would like
to know if there is any interest in implementing inter-application protocols.
We are interested in implementing a link where data could be passed from
ArcView to both XGobi and R. Once the data is passed different views of the
data could be displayed in both packages and linked to the map in ArcView for
brushing. We also envision calculating various spatial statistics in R and
passing them back to ArcView for display.

We would also be interested in implementing better sturctures for display of
spatial data in R. If there is interest please let us know.

Sincerely,
Nicholas Lewin-Koh
