I don't think you need this anymore - just use -bexapll for the linker.

There is a lot of discussion going on about the new library format in AIX
4.3.x. I have experienced a lot of problems with IBM's compiler duo and
usually use egcs. My impression is that using gcc or egcs might facilitate
porting anyway, since a lot of people compile R with these compilers on
other platforms.

If my memories are right, then the shipping S-Plus for AIX was compiled on
a very old AIX version (3.2.5) with an odd version of the compiler. Thus,
there are some problems with loading object code dynamically.
