hmm, I thought we finally *didn't* allow anonymous cvs,
{one reason being the log files publicity?},

but rather recommend and advertize rsync (which also works for CRAN, btw).

I have cron jobs calling shell scripts like

#---------------------------------------
RSYNC=/usr/local/bin/rsync

cd /usr/local/app/R/R-devel
$RSYNC -Cuvrlt --delete rsync.r-project.org::r-devel .
cd /usr/local/app/R/R-release-patched
$RSYNC -Cuvrlt --delete rsync.r-project.org::r-release-patched .
#---------------------------------------

rsync is available in Linux ("any newer distribution", probably),
or from

   ftp://samba.anu.edu.au/pub/rsync/
