This is much more complicated than I thought.  I'm using Red Hat, but I
see that the same thing: the version of config.sub in the source for 
automake is not the one that gets installed into /usr/share/automake.
During the build process, rpm runs "libtoolize --copy --force" which copies
the version of config.sub from /usr/share/libtool into the source directory.
The source for libtool-1.3.4 does have the up-to-date version of config.sub,
so I suppose this should be regarded as the original.
