He is, but this (do_asfunction in coerce.c) looks wrong:

    if( n == 1 )
        args =  mkCLOSXP(args, arglist, envir);
    else
        args =  mkCLOSXP(args, VECTOR_ELT(arglist, n - 1), envir);
    UNPROTECT(1);
