Found it on the site.
I tried duncan's suggestion.

SEXP
simpleCall()
{
  static int count = 0;
  SEXP ans;

  PROTECT(ans = allocVector(INTSXP, 1));
  INTEGER(ans)[0] = count++;

  UNPROTECT(1);
  return(ans);
}


If I had read this before I could have checked on mandrake 8.0

Here is my output on mandrake 8.1:

[1] 5
[1] 6
[1] 7
[1] 8
