[Rd] RGui/R Console crashes when entering illegal symbols (PR#1229)

When typing/pasting "£" (UK pound), "¤" (sun/star), "§" (paragraph), "½" (1/2
char) etc in the R Console window the RGui environment crashes. I noticed this
first in R v1.4.0 (2001-12-19 by B. Ripley), but it also happens in R v1.3.1. 

The symbols above are on my keyboard which makes it easy crash R by mistake. I
addition to typing and paste these symbols, I also tried to enter a few other
characters by using Alt-NumKeys (http://www.asciitable.com/) and I found that
several other symbols with ASCII >127 crash the RGui.
