This is not a bug of R-WinEdt, but of R, so also a copy to R-Bugs.

The problem happens, if you set  pager != internal  in options(), e.g.:
  options(pager = "notepad")

After that,  data()  results in an error message like yours:
   File c:\windows\TEMP\R.5346 not found

The real error occurs in show.data() [or on.exit() ?]:

If you comment out the line 
    on.exit(file.remove(file))
in the function show.data(), showing the file works as expected, but
results in not deleting the temp-files.

file.show(file, delete.file = TRUE)  also doesn't delete the file.
