Thank you for the link. This is exactly the kind of statement that I was looking for.

I searched the archives for any mention of the GPL, for posts by Prof. Leisch and some other keywords before posting to the list. Could this statement be added to the R FAQ and/or the CRAN repository policy, such that it is easier to find in the future?
