What an excellent example of why configuring a program from inside a
program may not be such a good idea...

I *think* the way to proceed is

a) start regedit (from the command box via the Start button)
b) save the registry to a file (*never* edit it directly, you'll risk
hurting yourself badly if you do)
c) make a backup of the registry file and edit it with your favourite
editor. Look for something that could be R's memory setting and set it
right (or delete that entry).
d) reload it from regedit.

grin).

Robert: There must be a way of detecting this situation at startup?
