I just copy parts of my correspondence with the author of Locfit:

>>Dear Mr <...>,
>>I have tried to apply locfit to a three dimensional data set for
density
>>estimation.
>>The algorithm seems to work well but when I want to plot the result,
the
>>routine "levelplot" is missing.
>>This is not the case in 2-dimensional fitting.
>>I=B4d be thankful for any help
>>Marcus Eger

> levelplot() is part of the S-plus trellis library, which isn't
available
> in R. So to plot the 3-d fit in R, cross-sections have to be computed
> and plotted manually... e.g.
