[R] Assembler messages?

So now for the $100.000 stupid question:

After having installed half of the contrib packages using g77
can I expect any problems if I try to install the other
half using f2c?

After mucking around with this compiler/linker/assembler and
what have you stuff for a couple of weeks I am becoming very
suspicious :-)
Give me mathematics any day.
