There are RPM packages for SuSE on

ftp://ftp.ci.tuwien.ac.at/pub/R/bin/linux/suse/5.3/RPMS/i386/ess

Sorry, only version ESS 5.0. But I'm using them both on SuSE 5.3/6.1/6.2
and Digital Unix 4.0E.

I'm currently reorganizing my RPM for SuSE and DU 4.0 repository on
ftp://ftp-stat.sci.uni-klu.ac.at/pub/R/bin/ (which gets mirrored on the
above place on CRAN), so may be I will update these ESS packages too.
