[R] Rwinst.exe 1.2.0 problems

I just downloaded the binaries for the released 1.2.0 for Windows (from
Guido Masarotti's site). In using the rwinst.exe installer, I noted two
significant problems. First, the installer seems extraordinarily slow
compared to the the 1.1.1 installer. It took almost 20 minutes to perform
a full base extraction from binaries to installation (all base pages, html
help, windows help, pdf manuals but not source or latex files) on both a
Windows NT system (384 MB RAM, 700 MHz processor) and a Windows 2000 system
(192 MB RAM, 733 MHz processor). The second problem is that the rwinst.exe
installer reports an application error ("unable to read memory at
0x2e3a553b" - on the Win 2K system and the same error, but different
location on the Win NT system) whenever I click on the button referring to
installing an "add-on" package. I've rebooted both systems and have
re-downloaded the installer several times to no avail.

FWIW, the last r-development version (not 1.3.0, but 1.2.0) posted on
Brian Ripley's site seemed to have the same problem on my systems.

I don't know if this is some peculiar interaction with my systems --
nothing unusual about them -- but thought I ought to bring it to the
attention of the developers as soon as possible.
