Thank you for doing that, this is a really good idea.
It was not quite obvious to me which line should be added to
/etc/apt/sources.list, but after some trial and error the
following line does it (this points to the CRAN mirror in
the US, and it is the version compiled against the stable
distribution):

deb http://cran.us.r-project.org/bin/linux/debian/dists potato/main/binary-i386/
