[R] problem in making R from sources on SGI IRIX : resolved

Hello all,

Many thanks to Kurt Hornik and Martin Maechler for their suggestions, which solved my problem.  For some reason the makefiles in ./src/library/ and ./src/library/base were not executed in my original make.  Running these makefiles manually built the base package, and now my R installation appears to be working fine.
