[R] R works in KDE but not in Gnome

Most likely this is due to the pretty background and all the snazzy
little shaded icons in GNOME eating up all available colors, of which
you'll only have 256 in 8-bit mode. KDE is more cartoon-like and uses
fewer colors. I think you need to up your display to at least 16-bit
or stay away from GNOME. Or take the hint from the error message and
do
