[R] standard matrix notation

This is not really a question on R, but a question for a book on R that I am
writing for psychology graduate students.

Students in psychology often have little exposure to linear algebra when
they show up in grad school (and often when they leave!). I would like to
include a page in my R text that discusses standard notation for matrices
and vectors. I realize that there is no universal standard, but I recall
seeing a reference to a so-called "international standard" with the
customary: lowercase for scalars, bold lowercase for vectors, etc. Does
anyone know where such a standard is published?

Many thanks for any hints,

Niels
