The speed of recent Java machines is, I think, more than decent on say
Linux (and not sooooo bad on SGI). I however observed the following
particaularities: If the java library files are local the GUI things
behave honestly, but if they are remote they are awfully slow (even if the
java application is run locally !... Java experts must help me with an
explanation for that)
