A good point to start are the packages nls for Nonlinear Rregression and
nlme (Nonlinear Mixed-Effects Models).
Underlying code is written in C (not C++) or Fortran.
You will find the code in the sources of the packages (available on
CRAN; also the windows binaries are available on CRAN.).
