[R] How to change parameters of Trellis-like graphs

It crashes on Linux too.  You are not doing this right

background <- trellis.par.get("background")
background$col <- "white"
show.settings()
background <- trellis.par.set("background",background)
show.settings()
dot.symbol <- trellis.par.get("dot.symbol")
dot.symbol$col <- "yellow"
dot.symbol <- trellis.par.set("dot.symbol",dot.symbol)
show.settings()

works.
