[R] bugs or imperfect implementation?

   It's not a change in drop1, though, where the basis of this (drop.scope) is
   unchanged since 1999.  I suspect a side effect of changes in the
   formula/terms handling.  Do you know when it did work?

I used the same notes last year this time and it should have worked
then, and the version might be 1.2.0 or 1.2.2, in case they had been
released then.  We upgraded from 1.2.2 to 1.4.0 on our AIX server in
early January this year.
