[R] Mapping (followup) + package installation

There is what might be called a beta test package available from
ftp://ftp.mcs.vuw.ac.nz/pub/statistics/map/.maptest.tar.gz.  This has
been tested on a Unix system but is yet to be fully tested on a Windows
system.  You are welcome to try.   It is a source package, so you need
to have the appropriate compilers, and it does not contain the
projection code which is the code for which there remain potential
licensing issues.  [The projection code in the S maps package came
straight from 10th Edition Unix.]
