I'll echo and support Dr. Harrell's comments as I have been burned
several times on my own typos paralleling his example.

It has cost me a sufficient amount of time that I have re-configured the
color syntax highlighting in my editor such that the assignment
operators (ie. "<-" and "=") are colored in bold red to differentiate
them from the equality/inequality operators (ie. "==", "<", "<=", etc.)
