Actually, within the MASS library (after you've installed it) - normally in
$R_LIB/MASS/scripts, there are copies of modified R version of the codes for
all chapters in that book.  They should work in R directly without any
modifications at all.

Aren't they the same?  I have a feeling that VR is the name of the
compressed source files of the library, once it is installed it will be
called MASS.  In other words you cannot find MASS.zip or MASS.tar.gz from
CRAN, because it is called VR.zip or VR.tar.gz

I agree.  It has the basic fundamental principles about statistics too.

Yes I have this book too but in my opinion it is more related to
programming, if one is looking for applied statistics book (so one can apply
statistics using R), then MASS book is the choice.
