quit() or q() ask whether you wish to save your workspace image in the
current directory. If you reply "y", the function calls save.image() which
calls save(), which calls file(), which has exited with an error
suggesting that you do not have permission to write to the current
directory. You can use getwd() and setwd() to see which directory you are
in, and move to one you have permission to write in.

If you read the code of save.image(), you will see that the function saves
to a uniquely named file, and moves it to .Rdata if file.rename() lets it.

Maybe the GRASS statistics mailing list:

http://grass.itc.it/mailman/listinfo/statsgrass

would be a better place to discuss this.

'/usr/local/arch/grass5'/lib: not found - means that you do not have a
recent version of GRASS, since mid-2000, both binary and source
distributions have installed lib and include directories under
$GISBASE. You haven't got one, so once again please read the README file
in GRASS_0.1-8.tar.gz. If your GRASS was installed from source, you will
still have the original libraries and header files, but then you should
use the configure arguments described in the README file to tell the
configure script how to find the libraries and header files.
