[R] AID and CHAID: news about?

AID and CHAID are (as I understand the terms, e.g. Kass, 1980, Applied
Statistics)) more than 20 years old procedures with known pitfalls.  They
appeared to have been completely eclipsed by other techniques (e.g.
rpart).
