[R] plotCI : Disabling X axis labels ?

I have my own set of labels for the X axis and typically
apply them to other plot modes using:
axis(1,at=1:n,labels=xLabels)

Where n is the number of character strings in xLabels

Is there a parameter to disable plotCI from creating its
default labels for the X axis?
