[R] Turning windows screen buffering on and off

Doesn't that only work for output at the R level?  I.e., if the output is
coming solely from compiled code, my impression is that flush.console()
won't help.  Am I mistaken?

Is it possible to make it an option in Edit / GUI preferences?
