Seems so since Wayne said (offline) that a compile from scratch worked
fine. Most likely there's a readline4-compat (or so) RPM for code that
has been linked with libreadline.so.4.

Hmm... I wonder what it did get linked to. Wayne? 

ldd `R RHOME`/lib/*

should tell you.
