However, I am not able to run the above:

> wing <- read.table("nested.txt", header=TRUE)
> names(wing)
[1] "cage"   "female" "wing"
> wing.aov <- aov( wing ~ cage + Error(cage:female), data=wing )
Warning message:
Error() model is singular in: aov(wing ~ cage + Error(cage:female), data = wing)
> anova( wing.aov )
Error in anova(wing.aov) : no applicable method for "anova"
