[R] pdf/ convert/ font problem

Acroread (Windows) works for me, xpdf (Linux CentOS) thrashes my machine
for ever (or until I gave up), and ghostscript gives me ...

/undefinedresult in --currentpoint--

... but I can't see anything obvious in the raw PDF.

I think that's the same problem:  ImageMagick is just calling ghostscript.

Sorry, no solution to suggest yet.
