You need to explicitly print() the value. Thus:

countme <- function() {
for(i in 1:10) {
    print(i)
  }
}

> countme()
[1] 1
[1] 2
[1] 3
[1] 4
[1] 5
[1] 6
[1] 7
[1] 8
[1] 9
[1] 10
