Same as this

> max(c(NA, NA), na.rm=T)
[1] -Inf
Warning message:
no non-missing arguments to max; returning -Inf

which is related to the issues of empty sum(), prod(), any(), and all()
in that it allows a consistent concatenation rule:

max(c(x1,x2)) == max(max(x1), max(x2))
