[R] size limit in R?

I could be wrong, but I think you did not provide information on your 
platform. Assuming it is Win32, it is an FAQ, please see:

You will hit memory limits rather quickly if you want to allocate not 
only one of your 3.6GB vectors - and this is neither the fault of R nor 
of Win32.
Although I don't have a background in Computer Science, I think the 
physical limit to address memory on a 32bit system is 4GB.
 > 2^32/(1024*1024*1024)
