Package actuar provides a density function that you can use with fitdistr 
from MASS.  E.g.

> library(actuar)
> x <- rpareto(1000, 2, 3)
> library(MASS)
> fitdistr(x, dpareto, list(shape=1, scale=1))
      shape       scale
   1.7928750   2.4446281
  (0.1569442) (0.3108455)
