Something along these lines should do what you want:

<<echo=TRUE, eval=FALSE>>=
TRUE <- 3
@
<<echo=FALSE, eval=TRUE>>=
cat(try(TRUE <- 3))
@

If I recall correctly, this was discussed here before.
